To survey, research and implement innovative and leading edge wireless solutions for today's fast paced, information oriented society.
The Project
We are continuing the research and implementation of the TigerPhone. Here is a breakdown of what we did:
- Background Research: We researched cellular infrastructures as well as a variety of cellular messaging systems such as SMS, CBS, USSD, EMS & MMS.
- Services and Features: We made an in-depth analysis of what services would benefit both students & faculty. Here we created a list of what we would like to get out of the TigerPhone and its wireless carrier. Examples of services we listed were: A Mobile Web Portal, Weather Updates, Scores, Group Messaging, information sharing and location based assistance.
- Interviews with Wireless Carriers : We had multiple meetings with different carriers where we learned more about their services, their technology. Then we explained to them what we would like to do with the TigerPhone, and asked them what they had to offer to the university.
- Moving forward : Once we decided which carrier to go with, we began to work on recommendations for implementations needed in order for the services to function. This includes surveying and mapping signal strength around campus, creating a mobile web portal, create a network topology for VPN access, and so forth.
- Easy Maintenance: One of our main goals in this project is to integrate these services with the least maintenance possible. Even though many new services will be available, not much work will be needed to be done on the back end. We are mostly expanding the current resources that are already available on campus.

The Team
We are currently students graduating from the Fort Hays State University INT Program. We have a very rich background and knowledge. This includes Networking, Media and Web Development.
We have been constantly working with Michael Sisto, a Wireless Consultant for IBM. He has taught us a lot about the celullar industry and today's leading trends in technology.
